Step 1: Purpose

What purpose do you need Swiss Galoppers vor? First and foremost, our boots are designed as riding boots, especially suitable for trail riding, endurance and driving. We do not suggest Swiss Galoppers for Reha/Therapy purposes and/or competing.

Step 2: Hoof shape

Swiss Galoppers sind für ovale Hufe mit proportionalen Trachten sowie für längere Hufe und/oder Hufe mit entweder hohen oder flachen Trachten geeignet. Für Bockhufe und Hufe mit Asymetrien (hebelnde Wände, Schnabelhufe oder Hufe, die breiter als lang sind) sind Swiss Galoppers weniger geeignet. Wir empfehlen grundsätzlich vorgängiges Testen der Hufschuhe. 

Step 3: Taking measurements

Taking your horses measurements is easy once you understand how it is done. Before you take your horses measurements, make sure your horses hooves are thoroughly cleaned. Measurements should be taken within 2 weeks of the last trim. You only need 3 measurements: The width, the length and the height.

The width

When taking measures of the width, you want to make sure you measure the widest part of the hoof. The width of the hoof determines the size of the boot ("SG" 3-8).

The length

When taking measures of the length, make sure you measure from the tip of the toe to the end of the bulbs. The length of the hoof determines whether you need a "SG" or a "SG-L".

The height

When taking measures of the height, make sure you measure from the ground to the deepest part of the pastern. A specific height will indicate which boot type ("SG or "SG-L") is needed. CAUTION: Please make sure to thoroughly measure in a 90° angle. The image below shows how it should not be done :-) A "wrong" angle can impact the measurements in an unbeneficial way.

Step 6: Putting the boots on!

Swiss Galoppers are easy to put on & take off. As with any hoof boot, make sure hooves are thoroughly cleaned before you put the boots on.
